THe gorilla organization.

Founded by Dr. Diane Fossey, The Gorilla Organization aims to reduce poaching in Africa.

By focusing on the causes that lead to poaching, The Gorilla Organization hopes to help communities move out of the situations that often give no other option than to poach. By taking the community approach, they empower local people to become modern guardians of the forest.

As a trustee I help to spread the word and consult the organisation on certain conservation projects.

Supporting forest rangers.

The Gorilla Organization works with the Congolese Wildlife Authorities to support the rangers working to protect the gorillas in Central and East Africa. They work in an environment that is hostile, unforgiving and often dangerous, yet they manage to build relationships with the gorillas that are intimate, lasting and which have undoubtedly saved gorillas’ lives.

supporting indigenous communities.

The Gorilla Organization leads the way in working with these indigenous communities, rather than against them. Their sustainable agriculture training programmes reduce their dependency on the forests, enabling them to not only feed themselves and generate a surplus to either sell to generate income or to store for the future. Then they can afford to send their children to school and improve their own literacy.
