free the bears

Free the bears are dedicated to helping fight the wildlife trade in asiatic bears across the content. From India’s dancing sloth bears, to the bear bile trade across South East Asia, the charity has rescued over 1,000 bears from captivity so far.

They also run the largest bear sanctuary in Cambodia, and have helped to educated hundreds of thousands of people across the world about the plight of the asiatic bears.

As a UK Trustee for Free The Bears, I help make decisions about how and where the charity should take its conservation efforts.

laos sanctuary.

Whilst filming for BBC 2’s Bears About The House the building of a new enclosure in Luang Prabang, Laos, was started in order to expand the bear housing capacity of the sanctuary. This project is still ongoing, and could really use your help to see it through to completion!

The enclosures creation and upkeep are entirely covered by donations, so even a little contribution may pay a days wages, or feed a bear .

protecting wild bears.

Just like in the medical field, preventing conservation issues is much better than curing them. Free The Bears have a number of research projects underway to assess the current status of South East Asian bear populations and habitats.

These projects range from discovering new populations, monitoring known populations and implementing anti-poaching and snare patrols.

They all need funding, and small contributions add up.
